A 13-year-old boy is being hailed as a hero after he used his slingshot to fight off a man who was trying to kidnap his 8-year-old sister.
The incident happened on May 11 in Alpena Township, Michigan. Owen Burns was playing outside when he heard his sister, Lily, scream. He ran to the window and saw a man trying to drag her into his car.
Owen grabbed his slingshot and fired three shots at the man. The man was hit in the head, chest, and arm and ran away. Lily was unharmed.
“I was just lucky,” Owen said. “He’s just a big target because he’s not like one Pepsi can.”
Police arrested a 17-year-old man in connection with the attempted kidnapping. He is facing charges of kidnapping, assault, and battery.
Owen’s father, Jeff Burns, said he is proud of his son for his quick thinking and bravery.
“He’s a hero,” Jeff Burns said. “He saved his sister’s life.”
