Dutch Artists Jan Is De Man, and Deef Feed took it upon themselves to do something different. Instead of painting abandoned buildings or old train track as the canvas for their masterpieces. They wanted to paint something where local communities could connect.

They want the residents who commission them to be involved in the masterpiece they create. They asked the community to submit their favorite books. The only rule was that no religious or political books were allowed. Together they painted a Giant BookCase that contained all the favorite books of the residents on the tri-level wall of the apartment building.

The mural has become not only an artistic source to bring the neighbors together but also selfie heaven for passers-by.

Jan Is De Man said that he developed the concept after he got the location for the mural. He said that he knew the people who lived on the ground floor very well, and they wanted a painting by his hands for quite a while.

They first thought it would be a good idea to paint a giant smiley on the wall, but it didn’t feel complete. It felt too simple. He studied the shape and the location of the house and came up with the idea to make a giant bookcase.

He loves bringing people together and putting smiles on people’s faces, and he believes this 3D art illusion will do just that.
